Comparison

Unnati and Odoo, compared honestly

Odoo is the most capable product on this page, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. It has more apps than Unnati has modules, an open-source edition you can run yourself, and an Indian localisation that covers GST, e-invoicing and statutory payroll.

The honest question is not which product can do more. It is how much assembly you want to do, and whether you want the Indian parts to be the product or a localisation layer on top of it. That is what this page is about.

In short
Odoo is a modular business platform with a very large app catalogue, an open-source Community edition and documented Indian GST, e-invoice and payroll localisation. Unnati is a smaller India-only ERP where those things are in the core product rather than configured from localisation modules. Odoo is broader; Unnati is narrower and less to assemble.

Where Odoo is stronger

A comparison page with no losses in it is marketing, not information. These are the reasons a well-run business may be better off with Odoo, and we would say the same on a call.

Indian statutory payroll is in the productOdoo documents an Indian payroll localisation covering EPF, ESI, professional tax, TDS and LWF. Unnati runs payroll with maker-checker disbursement, but the statutory filing outputs are on the roadmap. If payroll compliance is the reason you are buying, Odoo is ahead of us and you should weigh that heavily.
There is simply more of itWebsite, ecommerce, marketing automation, helpdesk, field service, e-learning, appraisals — Odoo has apps Unnati has no equivalent of and no plan to build. If your list of needs runs past operations into selling online and marketing, one Odoo subscription covers ground that would otherwise be three products.
You can run the open-source edition yourselfOdoo Community is open source. You can host it, read the source, keep your data on your own hardware and never pay a licence fee. Unnati is a subscription product and does not offer that, and for some buyers that difference settles the question on its own.
You can change it without asking anyoneOdoo Studio, a documented external API and a large developer market mean a business with an unusual process can build for it. With Unnati, a change to how something behaves is a conversation with us and a place in our queue.
It follows you abroadOdoo maintains fiscal localisations for a long list of countries. If you expect to invoice from outside India, or to acquire something that does, Unnati’s India-only design becomes a wall and Odoo’s does not.
A very small start can cost nothingOdoo’s One App Free plan runs a single app with unlimited users at no charge. Unnati’s estimate starts at ten users, so a business that needs one app and nothing else may pay nothing on Odoo. Do the arithmetic for your own headcount before you decide on cost.
Migration

Coming from Odoo

Most businesses that move do so because they wanted less to assemble, not because something was missing. The mechanics are the same as any other migration.

Step

Export your masters

What happens

Odoo has a documented export and an external API. Items, partners, chart of accounts and closing balances at your cut-over date are what we need.

Step

Decide what does not come across

What happens

If you are using Odoo apps Unnati has no equivalent of — a storefront, marketing automation — those stay where they are or stop. Better to know that before the cut-over than after it.

Step

Map and import

What happens

Columns are checked together, then loaded through Import and Export Data in the organisation module, then reconciled against your Odoo trial balance on the same date.

Step

Run a full cycle in parallel

What happens

One complete month, both systems, cut over at a quarter or financial-year boundary. This is not caution for its own sake; it is how you find the thing nobody remembered to mention.

We would be suspicious of anyone claiming a one-click transfer of transactional history, including us. The support page sets out how onboarding is handled.

Questions

Frequently asked

It depends on your headcount and what you need, and anyone who answers without asking is guessing. Both price by user with every app included. Odoo’s India list is ₹580 (Standard) or ₹890 (Custom) per user per month billed yearly, with One App Free at ₹0 for a single app. Unnati’s rough estimate is ₹300 per user per month for a minimum of ten users, with the final price agreed with you personally. Check current rates with Odoo and get our figure in writing.
