Q: Do we have to move everything at once?

No, and most businesses should not. A common approach is to start Unnati at the beginning of a financial year or a quarter with opening balances, keep the old data in Tally for reference and audit, and run the new documents in Unnati from that date.

Q: Should a small trading business switch from Tally?

Only if you need something Tally is not giving you: stock across godowns with cycle counts, a field team raising orders on a phone, production and quality, a POS counter, or one system your whole team reaches from anywhere. If your need is accounting and GST alone, staying put is a reasonable answer.

The table below is limited to what each vendor documents publicly. Where TallyPrime is stronger — and it is stronger in several places that matter — that is written out in full rather than left for you to discover after you have bought something.

TallyPrime is installed accounting software with deep Indian statutory coverage and a very large support network. Unnati is a cloud ERP that adds stock across godowns, production, quality, CRM, POS and projects on one login. If you need accounting and GST alone, TallyPrime is a reasonable answer.

Where TallyPrime is stronger

A comparison page with no losses in it is marketing, not information. These are the reasons a well-run business may be better off with TallyPrime, and we would say the same on a call.

It works without an internet connectionTally runs on the machine it is installed on. If your premises lose connectivity often, or you bill from a location with no reliable line, that is a real operational advantage and Unnati does not match it today.

Your accountant already knows itAlmost every accounts assistant and chartered accountant in India has worked in Tally. Training cost is close to zero, and handing a data file to your CA at year end is a familiar routine for both sides.

The support network reaches everywhereTally has a very large partner and certified-professional network across Indian towns and cities. If you want somebody who can come to your office the same afternoon, that network is hard to beat.

A licence you buy onceMany owners prefer a licence purchase to an annual subscription, particularly where the software will be used for many years without change. Unnati is sold on annual terms only.

Depth in statutory payroll outputsStatutory payroll filings such as ECR, Form 16 and 24Q are on Unnati’s roadmap, not in the product today. If those outputs are why you buy business software, that gap should weigh heavily.

Decades of accounting maturityCore accounting and statutory reporting in Tally have been refined over a very long time against a very large number of Indian businesses. That kind of maturity is earned, and we will not pretend to have matched it in every corner.

Yes, for masters and opening balances. Unnati has an Import and Export Data screen in the organisation module. You export items, customers, vendors, ledgers and balances from Tally to a spreadsheet, we help map the columns, and the data comes in. We do not read a Tally company file directly.
