Unnati and TallyPrime, compared honestly
Almost every business we talk to is running TallyPrime, and most of them should keep running it until something specific pushes them off it. This page is written for the moment that push arrives.
The table below is limited to what each vendor documents publicly. Where TallyPrime is stronger — and it is stronger in several places that matter — that is written out in full rather than left for you to discover after you have bought something.
Capability by capability
Compiled from Tally Solutions's own public documentation, last read on 12 September 2026. Capabilities change, so verify anything decisive with the vendor before you buy. We have not tested TallyPrime for speed, reliability or cost, and we publish no benchmark against it.
| Capability | Unnati | TallyPrime |
|---|---|---|
| How it is delivered | Cloud, used in a browser, with a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux and a mobile app for Android and iOS. | Installed software for Windows. TallyPrime on Cloud and Cloud Access are documented for online access from other devices. |
| GST invoicing and returns | Full sales document chain with GST, and GST returns validated against your own books before filing. | Documented as "GST compliance made easy", with direct returns upload and filing. This is core to the product. |
| E-invoice (IRN) and e-way bill | Raised through the NIC systems from the sales invoice, with per-user permissions and the 24-hour IRN cancellation rule enforced. | Documented as an included feature — "e-Invoice & e-Way bill". |
| Batch tracking | Batch carried end to end across sales order, proforma invoice, sales invoice and delivery challan, with an approve-or-reject workflow on edits. | Batch-wise inventory with expiry tracking is documented as part of inventory features. |
| Shop-floor manufacturing | Manufacturing orders with operations and routing, machine logs, downtime, tools, scrap and a daily production report. Job work is in the same module. | Bill of materials and manufacturing journals are documented. Shop-floor execution is generally addressed by partner add-ons. |
| Quality management | QC parameters, instruments, SLAs, calibration plans and calibration events, nonconformance and corrective action, and retained samples. | Not documented as part of the core product. Check with the vendor if this is decisive. |
| CRM and field sales | Leads, deals, companies, contacts, visit plans and GPS-verified check-in inside a 100 metre geofence. | Not documented as part of the core product. Check with the vendor if this is decisive. |
| POS and restaurant | Outlets, counters, cashier sessions, KOT, kitchen display, tables, recipes, loyalty, coupons and offers. | Point of sale invoicing is documented, and Tally Shoper 9 is a separate retail POS product. Restaurant features such as KOT are generally addressed by partner add-ons. |
| HR and payroll | Attendance including biometric devices, leave, and payroll with maker-checker disbursement. Statutory filing outputs such as ECR, Form 16 and 24Q are on the roadmap, not in the product today. | Payroll management is listed among the core features, and statutory payroll depth is a long-standing strength. |
| Projects and timesheets | Taskify: boards, sprints, dependencies, timers, timesheets, billing rates and automation rules. | Not documented as part of the core product. Check with the vendor if this is decisive. |
| Access control | Role and permission based, per branch and down to individual actions such as generating an IRN. | User-level security and access controls are documented; TallyPrime Gold covers unlimited users on the same LAN. Capability depends on the edition. |
| Audit trail | Hash-chained audit log, so each entry is linked to the one before it and an outside change is detectable. | An edit log is documented, which businesses use to meet the statutory audit-trail requirement. |
| Working without internet | No. A working connection is required, including at a POS counter. Offline billing is on the roadmap. | Yes. The product runs locally on the machine it is installed on. |
| Commercial model | Annual subscription with every module included, priced per user: a rough ₹300 per user per month for a minimum of 10 users, times twelve, plus 18% GST. Final price agreed with you personally. | A licence plus an annual services subscription for updates and connected features. Check current terms with the vendor. |
Where TallyPrime is stronger
A comparison page with no losses in it is marketing, not information. These are the reasons a well-run business may be better off with TallyPrime, and we would say the same on a call.
Moving from TallyPrime
Masters and opening balances come across through a spreadsheet. We do not read a Tally company file directly, and nobody should let you believe otherwise.
Export from Tally to a spreadsheet
Items, customers, vendors, ledgers and closing balances as at your chosen cut-over date. We tell you which columns we need before you start.
Map the columns with us
Item codes, tax rates, HSN codes, units and opening stock are checked together. This is where most migration problems are caught, and it is worth an hour.
Import and verify
Load the file through Import and Export Data, then reconcile stock and trial balance against your Tally figures on the same date before anybody raises a live document.
Run in parallel for one cycle
Keep Tally available for reference and audit while the team completes a full month in Unnati. Cut over at a financial-year or quarter boundary wherever you can.
We would be suspicious of anyone claiming a one-click transfer of transactional history, including us. The support page sets out how onboarding is handled.
